Some quick facts about Mashatu
Mashatu Game Reserve is situated in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve of the Tuli Block Botswana, and forms part of the Greater Mapungubwe Transfrontier Conservation Area.
The Northern Tuli Game Reserve is 72 000 hectares and borders Zimbabwe in the East, South Africa in the South and the Bobirwa District of Botswana in the West. It is the largest privately owned game reserve in Botswana.
45 000 hectares of the Northern Tuli Game Reserve is under the direct management of Mashatu Game Reserve (inclusive of Tuli, Pitsani and Shalimpo), of which Mashatu owns 27 000 hectares.
Mashatu operates 4 Commercial Lodges – Euphorbia Villas (5* - 8 villas = 16 guests), Mashatu Lodge (4* - 14 suites = 28 guests), Tuli Safari Lodge Mashatu (4* - 8 tented suites = 16 guests) , Mashatu Tent Camp (3* - 8 tents = 16 guests),
And 2 Exclusive Use Safari Houses - Kolokolo (5* - fully catered – 8 guests max) and Shalimpo (2* - self-catering – 8 guests).
Concessionaires operating within Mashatu include Horizon – Horse & Cycling Safaris, PhotoMashatu and Serokolo Spa – all providing ad hoc activities for our guests.
PhotoMashatu and Serokolo Spa are both based out of Mashatu Lodge. Morning / afternoon activities with the concessionaires can be booked whilst in camp if not booked prior to arrival.
Additional concessionaires include EcoTraining who will be operating within the Pitsani Game Reserve area only going forward;
Wim & Mags of Wild Web Africa the film / documentary makers resident and filming within Mashatu (they are the only licenced and authorised drone operators in Mashatu).
Additional areas to explore whilst at Mashatu include Solomons Wall, Mmamagwa, the Amphitheatre, the Tuli Circle, the Confluence of the Shashe/Limpopo Rivers and three countries Zim/SA/Bots (Shalimpo island), various cultural and historic battle sites as well as bushman painting sites.
Mashatu’s head office is based within the reserve close to Pontdrift Border and is commonly known as “Merryhill”. Joint Managing Directors are Francois & Wendy du Toit, resident in the reserve.
Mashatu also operates 7 Syndicated Private Camps – Limpopo River Lodge, Fika Futi, Sethare, Rock Camp, Eagles Nest, Hatari and Santhata.
Limpopo Valley Airfield (commonly known as LVA) is a registered International Airport, owned and operated by Mashatu.
The Cable Car at Pontdrift Border is owned and operated by Mashatu during times when the Limpopo River is flowing.
Conservation levies paid by guests contribute to Mashatu’s conservation and community efforts in funding projects through the Tuli Conservation Trust (www.tulitrust.org) and NOTUGRE (www.notugre.com) including anti-poaching and human wildlife conflict management.
With 280 employees, Mashatu is a major employer, second only to the Government, in Bobirwa, with over 98% of employees being Batswana.
